Thanks to everyone who attended the January 23rd meeting at O’Toole’s.
Big thanks to Ann Marie for compiling the notes below. Here’s what we discussed:
Updates since last meeting
- Speed issue on Elbur
- Our concerns were shared with our ward officer, Officer Matt Wintrick.
- Officer Wintrick spent time parked on Elbur during high traffic times and some tickets were issued.
- This will continue to be an issue so we need to contact Councilman Litten if we would like Officer Wintrick to do this again in the months ahead.
- Speed traps can also be placed on the street as another option to deter people from speeding.
- Sidewalk repairs
- Sidewalk division has requested that people contact the division directly with their individual questions and concerns.
- Councilman Litten will provide further updates later in the meeting on this issue.
- Garbage pick-up- pick up seems to be occurring later in the morning now that construction is done on the street.
Communication ideas for block club
- Our neighbor Scott Martin has offered to create a website for our block club. The website is: www.elburavenue.com… which you probably know because you are here right now!
- Scott discussed some ideas on how the site could be used by the group and asked people to share other ideas or requests for how to utilize the site.
- Currently people can use the site to get in touch with block club co-captains.
- There is also a calendar on the site that we can use to post block club meetings and neighborhood activities.
- Some ideas that were mentioned by our neighbors were:
- Create a way to have private log-in on the site so neighbors can share information that will only be seen by neighbors (as the website is public so anyone can view the content that is currently on there).
- Some info that may want to be shared only by neighbors would be things like: emergency info, putting houses up for sale, etc.
- Another idea was to add Councilman Litten’s contact information the site.
- If people have other ideas they want to share with Scott, you can click on the “contact us” tab on the site and Scott will receive your feedback.
- Eventually, this tab will be set up to contact block co-captains as well.
Updates from Councilman John Litten
- Sidewalk repairs
- The city of Lakewood put out a bid for a company to do the repairs.
- Work is set to begin roughly in Summer 2018.
- Neighbors who need to do repairs to their sidewalk will be notified by letter from the city of Lakewood in the Spring.
- If you choose to hire a separate entity to do your repairs, the work must be done by November 2018.
- If you think that the damage done to your sidewalk was due to something caused by the city (such as a tree that was planted by the city uprooting under the sidewalk), you should contest it with the city and see if the city will pay for some of sidewalk repairs.
- Snow issues
- Citations can be issued to neighbors who aren’t removing their snow.
- If issues develop residents can contact Councilman Litten.
- The new Lakewood City Council members have begun their terms on the Council.
- The biggest priority of the Council from an economic development perspective is the rebuilding of the space where Lakewood Hospital is currently.
- The building across from the hospital that is currently under construction will be a family health center and emergency room.
- The space where the hospital is currently is going to be rebuilt into a space that will include retail, commercial space, town-homes, and a common square.
- Carnegie Development Corporation will be working on this project with the city looking for a $70-$90 million investment from the developer.
- Questions were raised about the status of the pit bull ban in Lakewood.
- The hope is that it will be less restrictive and less breed-specific than it stands right now.
- The new language for the ordinance has been sent to committee and has yet to be discussed.
- John also mentioned that if anyone is interested in participating on committees run by City Council, they should let him know directly at: john.litten@lakewoodoh.net or 216.302.8333.
- Some examples of committees that are currently in existence are:
- Animal safety welfare advisory committee
- Citizens advisory committee
- The community relations advisory committee

Announcements and next meeting
- Ann Marie and Mike asked for ideas of presenters or topics they would like to have discussed at future meetings.
- A neighbor asked if someone from garbage and recycling could come to talk about how the program works in Lakewood.
- It was mentioned that this information can also be found at: http://www.onelakewood.com/accordions/residential-curbside-collection/.
- If people are interested in enrolling in the Summer Sprinkling Program, you can enroll here: http://www.onelakewood.com/accordions/summer-sprinkling-program/
- We are hoping to have another block party this summer and would like to create a committee for the event. This will be discussed at the next meeting.
- Our neighbor Alison will be in touch with the group at the next meeting as she is in the process of organizing a block-wide yard sale for Elbur.
- Our next meeting will be on Thursday, April 12th, 7-8pm. Our guest speaker will be Officer Matt Wintrick. The location will likely be O’Toole’s but this will be confirmed as the date gets closer.
