A safe city is a top priority. Continual training of our city safety forces, police and fire, is always ongoing to meet this objective. Citizen awareness and involvement is also important. Knowing your neighbors and keeping watch over your neighborhood is helpful to city safety forces and allows each of us to know when something seems out of place or amiss. As we approach warmer weather, the police remind citizens that it is important to lock your car doors and houses. Not locking up, sometimes even for just a minute, creates opportunity for someone walking by. Many thefts are crimes of opportunity and occur because a car, bike or house was left unlocked.
Never be concerned about calling the police when something does not seem right. Police need residents’ eyes and ears and would prefer to respond to your instincts and check out a situation versus a bad alternative.
